If you've never checked out the Pleasant Family Shopping blog, you have missed a real treat. I was pleasantly surprised one evening to find out that the author had published some lengthy articles about the history of General Cinema. GCC is long gone now but it has a fascinating history.
Here's a link to some of the blog posts, if you're interested.

Wow - thank you very much! I'll check out your blog.
Cheers!
Scott
I knew that GCC was into Bottling and I knew about the Neinman Marcus connection although you sure couldn't tell it from our uniforms! I didn't know about GCC being bought out and spun off by the publishing company. I was most surprised to learn that GCC hung on until 2001. I thought the demise came in the 1990s. The first photo of the GCC in the mall looked exactly like the GCC in Northeast Mall. I saw a movie there in 91 (I was visiting an old Cinema V Mgr.) and it has never been refurbished.
The old GCC theater at Northeast Mall is now a Movie Tavern, I think. There is a new Rave theater at Northeast Mall, but I haven't been to one of those yet.
You mean that you didn't slip into your GCC uniform, close your eyes, and think of the luxurious fabrics at Neiman-Marcus? :)
